Read an article about this gal being a modern "Edith Piaf" and boy were they not far off. Zaz can SING...big time...a very nice jazzy, big band-ish, bluesy, folky blend. Powerful, expressive, and emotive articulation with skilled vocal control that she makes seem too easy. That combined with that smoky colored timbre of her voice is just amazing.

I actually bought this for my wife who's a big "Edit Piaf" fan, and I was kind of surprised by how much I liked it. YES, shockingly she sings in French, most likely because she IS French. Mixed with mostly simple instrumentation (acoustic guitar, contrabass, accordion, etc) this REALLY makes for an enjoyable and energetic listen.

Doesn't matter if vous parlez fran�ais or not, because after listening to this for a couple weeks, you'll probably be singing LOUDLY in mangled French as you bop around the house doing whatever...the music is seriously just that infectious. This ch is a surprise. You know when you buy cd from favorite singer, and it turns out it has 2-3 good songs you end up listening? This one is nothing like that, you just need to listen it all, over and over again!
