5.0 out of 5 stars Great song!!!, December 8, 2011
    By
Randomly had this pop up in my reccos. For a band that is nearly impossible to find any real information on due to a name that is difficult to search, I loved it! It is definitely worth the download!! The song was apparently covered on Glee, but don't hold that against it.

One of the best songs on the album. Sticking true to their previous work, even in line with The Format. Love this song!

    Heaven Is in Your Mind

    Product Description

Traffic was one of the most original and influential British groups of the 1960s, gathering a diverse set of individual talents in vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood, singer/guitarist Dave Mason, drummer Jim Capaldi and reeds player Chris Wood. The foursome's expansive talents and formidable creative chemistry allowed the musicians to integrate an array of folk, jazz, pop and R&B elements, infusing their eclectic stylistic mix with a playfully psychedelic spirit that perfectly captured the experimental sensibility of the times.

Traffic's historic 1967 debut LP (produced by noted studio vet Jimmy Miller) was released in the U.K. as Mr. Fantasy, but initially reached U.S. shores in altered form as Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy. The American edition featured an altered track listing and new cover art with Winwood, Capaldi and Wood but not Mason, who had quit the band prior to the album's release.

The U.S. LP added the British singles "Paper Sun," "Hole in My Shoe" and Smiling Phases to the album's running order, along with a short snippet of the U.K. single "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" as a recurring motif between tracks. The American edition also tacked on the short closing track "We're a Fade, You Missed This," which is actually the fadeout of an alternate version of "Paper Sun." The American LP's title was quickly amended to Mr. Fantasy, and it was under that name that most stateside fans came to know the album, with the original U.S. edition becoming something of a rarity.

In any form, and under any title, Heaven Is in Your Mind/Mr. Fantasy ranks as one of the most audacious and inventive rock albums of its time. Such catchy tunes as "Paper Sun," "Hole in My Shoe" and "Heaven Is in Your Mind" combine stylistic adventurousness with effortless melodic appeal, while more introspective numbers like "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "Coloured Rain" capture early stirrings of prog-rock and jazz-fusion.

Sundazed s new compact disc edition of this seminal vintage disc features the album s incredibly rare mono mix, which differs substantially from the album s more familiar stereo mix.

    5.0 out of 5 stars 1st TRAFFIC album... discrepancies explained !!!, February 26, 2001

O.K. Let me see if I can explain all the confusion surrounding the latest releases of Traffic's landmark first album, "Mr. Fantasy" or, as it was first titled in the U.S., "Heaven Is In Your Mind." There are three remastered versions of this album that have been released in the past year and a half. All three versions are currently available on Amazon.com. The first release (in October 1999) is Mr. Fantasy [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [IMPORT]: This is the original STEREO ENGLISH version of this album, and it includes as bonus material the original MONO AMERICAN version of the album. The next release (in August 2000) is MR. Fantasy [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [EXTRA TRACKS]: This is the original MONO ENGLISH version of the album, and it includes as bonus material the four missing songs that were included on the American version of the album, plus the A-side of the rare single, "Here We Go 'Round The Mulberry Bush." The third release (also in August 2000) is Heaven Is In Your... Read more

This review is from: Heaven Is in Your Mind (Audio CD)
Although most critics rate this as the best Traffic album, I'd definitely rank it third. Heaven is in your mind was essentially the UK album Mr. Fantasy without two tracks and resequenced. Using the sequencing from the US release (and adding the two tracks cut from the previous vinyl version plus two tracks from the soundtrack album Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush)Island has reissued the album with terrific sound.

There are problems. The booklet is very skimpy (particularly when compared to the UK version) consisting of little more than the credits and the two covers for the album (which were the same save for the title). What is really mystifying is why Island didn't just release the UK version of Mr. Fantasy. That version includes all the original tracks plus 8 of the original mono mixes. The bonus tracks from Heaven is in your mind were added to Traffic (the band's second album).

Perhaps Bill Levenson (who supervised this reissue) felt that there would be more interest from... Read more

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Psychodelic Masterpiece, September 12, 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: Heaven Is in Your Mind (Audio CD)
This is one of the true Master Works of the Psychodelic Era. This album, along with Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, Axis: Bold As Love, Are You Experienced and a few others represents the "high water mark" of Music of this (or any) century. This (these) milestones in Music are "Lenses" through which everything that came before was projected onto all that has (and will)come in the future.

    Ogdens Nut Gone Flake

    Album Description

Digitally remastered and expanded three CD edition of the British band's 1968 album including 26 bonus tracks. Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake is widely regarded as a classic album that stayed #1 in the UK Albums Chart for six weeks. The two-act concept album consisted of six original songs on side one and a whimsical psychedelic fairy tale on side two relating the adventures of "Happiness Stan" and his need to find out where the moon went when it waned. Critics raved, and the album sold well, but the band were confronted by the practical problem that they had created a studio masterpiece which was virtually impossible to recreate on the road. Ogdens' was performed as a whole just once, and memorably, live in the studio on the BBC television program Colour Me Pop. The surviving members Kenny Jones and Ian McLagan have overseen the remastering of this album.

Monday 7 May 2012 sees the UK release of a whopping four DELUXE EDITIONS for Small Faces fans (15 May 2012 in the USA) - and for many their 1968 masterpiece "Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake" (a Number 1 album in the UK) will be 'the' jewel in a very tasty set of crowns.

      (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Ogden's Nut Gone Flake (Audio CD)
With all the changes happening in music in the late '60's this classic was a BIG hit in the U.K. but for a variety of reasons(they liked to be in the studio as opposed to touring, label on verge of bankruptcy) it got buried in the U.S. Great songs, Steve Marriott just before he left to help form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton as the next super group. This release was on the level of some of the great entries in the psychedelic period(Sgt. Pepper, Moby Grape, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix,). The story line on side 2 is great, in conjunction with some really great songs. Side 1 is no slouch. You miss it, your loss. I re-bought it in every format it's ever been released in...............now they remix it.

This is a prized LP from my comparitive youth, which I had not listened to in a many years. My loss. The "B Side" in particular - Happiness Stan - holds up incredibly well. And the narrative sounds as though it was written by Anthony Burgess himself. As fresh as the day it was recorded.
