I'll Take Romance

Product Description

Often cited as the world's true "romance crooner" and proponent of all things love, legendary jazz balladeer Steve Tyrell will release his new collection, I'll Take Romance, which features 12 tracks with Tyrell, backed by his band along with a String Orchestra. The release of I'll Take Romance will be accompanied by tour dates across the country, including his annual seven week run at New York City's legendary Café Carlyle, where he replaced Manhattan icon Bobby Short seven years ago. A passionate song selection that is indeed perfect for Valentine's Day and beyond, Steve Tyrell's I'll Take Romance is a modern-day take on all things love.

Inspired by Chelsea Clinton's choice of his version of "The Way You Look Tonight" for the first dance at her wedding (as told to Tyrell at last year's Café Carlyle engagement by proud Papa Bill Clinton), Tyrell then decided that his next studio recording should be an album consisting purely of romantic standards- an homage to The Great American Songbook with tracks culled from several genres expressing the theme of romance. Featuring such gems as "That's All," "Taking a Chance On Love," "All of You" and the title track, Tyrell also covers a host of R&B classics, including the Etta James hits "At Last" and "Trust In Me;" Sam Cooke's "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons;" and Little Willie John's "Talk to Me."

    (From VocalStandards.com review)

With his Concord Records debut album -- I'll Take Romance -- Tyrell delivers the romantic goods in boatloads.

Superbly produced, this LP weaves an interesting path through classic standards, R&B numbers and blues ballads ... capturing both the tortured and the joyous affairs of the heart.

The track list of classic and newer standards ride comfortably on the back of Bob Mann's wonderful "Bacharachian" arrangements ... and often his crisp, classic jazz guitar accompaniment as well. This is good stuff.

    As expected...

Tyrell not only brings his distinctive vocal stylings to I'll Take Romance, but as you would expect he exercises his Grammy award winning producer skill set to great affect. Steve collaborates with long-time friends Bob Mann and Jon Allen on this, his first Concord effort ... rendering a best-of-breed production with a rich, round vocal track -- elegantly threaded in and around Mann's... Steve Tyrell delivers. True entertainment whether in a live showroom or on this CD I"ll take Romance. With great orchestration and a great arrangement. My personal favorites are "I'll Take Romance with Judith Hill in a great duet. "You Turn me around" is delivered with great feeling and soul. Naturally, Tyrell theme song " The way you look Tonigt" as usual is great delivery. I have followed Steve's career for over 8 to 10 years. His maturity and certainly stage presense is exceptional. Bravo Steve, your Best Yet !! I'm sure there is more to come. How about a CD with Duet's only? Find all these great vocalist in LA that few folks know and let them rip !!
