When 21st Century Toy's released the Panther some years ago, I was awstruck by the detail that went into this replica of a real German Tank. However, what a nice surprise to find out that a 1/18 scale Tiger Tank was on it's way. The detail is incredible. Right down to the Panzer Commander. When I look at the effort that went into this model, even I was very impressed. The Tiger Tank represented Germany's best of the best in terms of fire power and brute force. Many critics of this marvelous feat of German engineering, have stated that the Tiger was underpowered and to heavy for many of the roads it would have to cross. While this was true, ask anyone who served with the armor units of both United States and Great Britain, they will tell you that the one tank that could invoke absolute fear and respect was the Tiger Tank. This model in it's own way captures that certain fear that the allies must have... Up to that point, I had never seen a toy tank which could do that! I promptly walked out of the store with one and it has since become the centerpiece of my 1/18 military collection. The Tiger I replica, from a unit that fought on the Eastern Front (identified by the elephant stenciled on the front by the foreward machine gun) features a highly detailed interior including crew seats, cannon and machine gun, ammunition, tools, and even the cranks that open the hatches! The exterior of the tank is also highly detailed down to the antiskid marks, dirt and damage. Hatches can be opened to reveal the engine and radiators, and the tools and cables can also be removed. This is truly a well concieved replica that is far superior to others like it on the market. 21st Century Toys has done it once again! 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful By = Durability: This review is from: Series 2: WWII German Tiger 1 Tank in 1:18 Scale (Toy) The Tiger series is probably the best known tank(s) of WW2. Even someone with a minimal knowledge of WW2, has at least heard of the "Tiger". The Tiger had a combination of firepower and protection, coupled with exclusively veteran crews, that made it almost invulnerable to allied vehicles until the very end of the war. The invulnerability led to the "Tiger legend"; impressive for a tank that never numbered more than 1200 produced. This vehicle (a TigerIE) is an extraordinary model, let alone a "toy". The detailing and weathering rivals anything I've ever seen by a hobbyist on a model kit (certainly better than any work I've ever done), and the details in the molding are excellent: weld beads and pitting were interior items were attached to the hull/turret are correct in every respect. As with the Panther model, the gun's muzzle is blackened to show the effects of muzzle blast, tracks and exhaust system are rusted, and markings are accurate for the timeperiod (ca 1944). Unique so... Read more |
